Big SurThis is a featured page

This 90-mile coastal section of California 1, heading south from the Monterey Peninsula, features one incredible ocean view after another. Every bend in the road seems like a cue to say, “Oh my God!” Finish up the day at Hearst Castle in San Simeon, a surreal monument to its namesake’s megalomania.

Last month, my wife and I started in San Diego and drove Hiway 1 all the way up to San Francisco. Besides the obvious beauty of Big Sur, the entire trip was outstanding and I highly recommend it.
